Lakes

Lakes are bodies of water which are in principle safer than rivers, the sea and other natural places to swim. They are more dangerous than swimming pools but also considerably more interesting, inspiring and fun. Even if not to get inside, they are fascinating to walk, especially if you can do it round them and complete a loop. They are also marvelous to contemplate.

Lakes are nowhere better valued, nurtured and enjoyed than in Germany, especially in Bavaria where the Bavarian lakes are one of the highlights of the culture and leisure of the place.

We have a separate page for the man-made lakes, mainly the reservoirs formed by dams, known as embalse in Spanish.
