Spanish (Español)

Spanish is the language of Spain. Since Spanish people conquered (after discovering it) a vast portion of the New World and further colonized other distant lands (like Philippines), it is also the national language of another 30 countries and is thus one of the most important languages of the planet, the second most spoken in the world by the number of native people (close to half a billion natives, 6% of the world population) [1] and fourth in terms if including so-called L2 (second-language) speakers [2].

It is, like Russian and even more so, a pro-drop language, meaning that pronouns, especially when defining the subject, are omitted, e.g., "te creo" (I believe you) as opposed to "yo te creo" which is also possible but with an exaggerated emphasis on the subject that would translate as "me, I believe you". This I believe makes Spanish people fade away from the universe materialized by their prose: they are spectators more than actors, they come, not even next, but often do not even come at all in the construct they express. There is little difference between "Entendido" and "Entiendo", as opposed to no pro-drop languages: "understood" and "I understand" (or in French, "Compris" et "Je comprend").

It is the mother tongue of Elena as well as of Julia and Luz, who also speak French (but not so well) and got full childhood exposure to English in the years 20192023, for which reason they actually speak it better than French.
