Single molecule spectroscopy

This is a topic of quantum optics, pioneered by the experiments of Kador and Moerner[1] who observed the absorption of a single dye molecule. The first antibunching from a single molecule was reported by Basché et al.[2].

See Ref. [3] for a nice review.
