The difficulty is that taking with the rook does not lead to mate if not taken back, while taking with the queen makes no mate threat and only wins the same bishop. Strong players take with the rook as seen from the puzzle rating (up to 2451). Weak ones only see the short line.

In this work, we use the wavelet (better than Fourier) transform to understand wavepacket propagation (here of X waves), a concept introduced by Colas & myself in PRL 116, 026401 (2016) which proves to be much more insightful due to the role of self-interferences everywhere.
