Our "Excitons in crystals" entry for the Encyclopedia of Condensed Matter Physics 2ed, with A. Kavokin—from Frenkel's historical insight of what happens to an atom's excited state in a lattice, to cool devices such as stretchable screens—is finalized and should be published soon.

It's technical and I've never been very interested in KN95 standards without valves and such, but I do seem to understand from these tortuously written instructions that masks are not compulsory for the plane but remain so for the bus and train? Kafkaian.

Reading this interesting testimony on the great "physicians"—and the crush for the moustache—justifies my Houellebecq's slide in yesterday's Lecture. What this was about remains, though, a privilege for those who came to hear something that enjoyed locality (and confidentiality).

I was trying to get an idea of how distorted my perception of how bad West Midland buses @nxwestmidlands could be... it appears it's even worse than I thought! Here's a selection from the past few days of the phlegmatic British feedback on their service:

To be fair, someone gave 2 stars, although that says more again about the British people's resilience than about the service itself.
