Quantum blockade

I call here quantum blockade what is better known as Coulomb blockade, photon blockade or polariton blockade, depending on what it is that you are blocking.

There is two types of blockades, which the literature came to call the "conventional" blockade, which got this name after the second type, or so-called "unconventional" blockade was reported.

The effect was re-discovered by T. Liew and V. Savonna in a photonic molecule.[1]. They observed the phenomenon numerically with little understanding of it, which leads to a wrong title for their paper as they mistook antibunching with single-photon emission.

We provided a unified and complete picture of the phenomenon[2], which shows that they manifest together.

Conventional Blockade

Unconventional Blockade

There are many variations of the scheme, including inverse parametric scattering[3], the dynamical blockade[4], bi-chromatic driving[5], etc.

Tim Liew, who brought the effect back to life, has been very active and creative on the topic.[6][7][8]
