Our welcome party for Isabel and Joaquin was a Georgian evening! The menu adhered to the classics:

  • Georgian (cocktail)
  • Khachapuri
  • Khinkali
  • Churchkhela

This was the result of a poll featuring the other thematic that made our recent past, Sicilian (the photo of the poll is from a restaurant in Cefalù). Georgian is, in large part, due to our previous trip in Russia, where some of the best food to be found is actually Georgian, and spent much of our time having Khinkalis. French, Spanish and Colombian, in tribute of our respective nationalities in the group, did not gather much interest (French got one vote).

The cocktail was of course chosen for his name and should have been sipped listening to this song and its story but everybody is so talkative nowadays that we got straight away into the evening, listening to Tiersen through the Piano interpretation of Carlos and to some real-life stories of Houellebecq proportion through some recollections of Joaquin. As a good Georgian table should be, drinks were plentiful, starting with a very enjoyable one-liter Portuguese wine stating somewhere that o instinto guia homens e animais. We did not adhere strictly to all the Georgian traditions. After all, we haven't even been to Georgia yet. The evening concluded with some tasting of Cohibas, responsible driving towards more adventure and cigar-sickness for our youngest attendant.
