Alcalá de Henares

Alcalá de Henares is the second largest city in the community of Madrid after Madrid itself, and is the place to go for a true taste of the Spanish cultural heritage rather than the capital, that from historical and architectural points of view, pales in comparison with almost every other city in Spain. The name is distinguishingly Arabic, al-qal'a (القلعة, for fortification or citadel); Henares refers to the river. Its Latin name Complutum is still used for the University Complutense, now in Madrid, but one of the oldest university in the World from its beginning in Alcalá.
