January ( Janvier; Enero) is the first month of the year, with 31 days, the first of which is New Year's Day, one filled with hopes and good-intents.

January is named after Janus (Ianuarius in Latin). Saxons called it Wulf-monath and Charlemagnes Wintarmanoth (winter month). It is typically the coldest month of the year. It appeared along with February c. 713 BC when Numa Pompilius added these two months to the Roman calendar.

January is Julia's birthmonth (on the 3) as well as Antoine (on the 9).
