Congrats to Dr. Lòpez Carreño @juclopezca for passing his Thesis "Excitación con Luz Cuántica" with the greatest honours (Cum Laude) following the unanimous and secret vote from his prestigious Jury, composed of some of the most critical and knowledgeable scientists in his field.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

:) my problem is I don't know when to stop, let my rating collapse, and then have to build it up again till I get too tired and get collapsed it again. It's a pithy lichess doesn't record *all* games rating. I think I'll track my centipawns to identify when I enter loosing mode.

Julia recently hit this point of fascination that some people get with dinosaurs (something which even Jurassik park didn't bring me into and an indication I took to classify people as nerdier than me). Hopefully, this shall pass. But the drawings are cool.

If you follow what this thread is about, he/she means starting from the right, and that the chain of truncatable primes stops at the first number. Not that primes can't have 2 as leading digit (there are infinitely many).

Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
But... removing the leading number does not give you the 2nd largest prime with the same property, which is 96686312646216567629137 (the 3rd one is 95918918997653319693967, etc.)

Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
There are 4260 such primes, I give them here: laussy.org/wiki/Blog:Scie…
Fabrice Laussy
Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
You can compute it. This Mathematica code
FixedPointList[Select[Flatten[Table[Range[9]*10^Length@IntegerDigits[#[[1]]] + #[[i]], {i,Length[#]}]], PrimeQ] &, {3}][[-3]] tells you that 36484957213536676883 is the largest such prime starting with 3. Indeed smaller than with 7.
Fabrice Laussy
Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
@sTeamTraen @lorenzhasanewip @evanpro @fermatslibrary If you allow 1 rightmost (not prime), you get 89726156799336363541, still smaller, and 9 (@Silberwolf52, also not prime) you get 78738315342618762345659, both still smaller than 357686312646216567629137.
Fabrice Laussy
Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
1 & 9 are not primes, so if you remove all but the last digit, you're not always left with a prime.
Fabrice Laussy
Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
Yes, same applies to 5. So it's only to check with 3.
Fabrice Laussy
Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
As well you must check other primes starting with 2, 3, 5 as their rightmost number, which seems easy if they all terminate (if they wouldn't the given example wouldn't be the largest known).
Fabrice Laussy
Fabrice Laussy @fplaussy · 10 Nov 2019
seems easy to show that it's the provably largest.

True, which makes those who predicted it beforehand, like Douglas Adams in this case (internet), even more admirable.
