Villardefrades

Villardefrades is a town in Castile and Léon community, on the road from Madrid to Asturias (autovía del Noroeste A6).

The place, of medieval origin ("villa de los frailes") features various points of interest. It suffered various calamities which make for a good storytelling as you stroll its streets, starting with its nickname of "pueblo de los castigos" (village of the punishments) [1]. Most interestingly is the San-Andrés church, which seems to be a ruin but is actually an unfinished work (locals call it "la obra"). The other church, nearby, is consecrated to Saint Cucuphas (San Cucufate).
