The town near [[Neuschwanstein]] castle.
+
Füssen is where the Romantic Road dies in the Alps. For many, it is nearby the Königswinkel, that is, the area that Ludwig II of Bavaria (and other kings) fancied particularly and cluttered with castles and palaces, most notably the [[Neuschwanstein]] castle. Even [[Wagner]] passed by Füssen mainly on his way to visit his friend at the other places around. The privileged geographical position, however, made it an important spot since pre-historical times and is home of important cultural heritage (the oldest German fresco is allegedly in the St. Mang Basilica and the Hohes Schloss is the best preserved Bavarian medieval castle).

Füssen

Füssen is where the Romantic Road dies in the Alps. For many, it is nearby the Königswinkel, that is, the area that Ludwig II of Bavaria (and other kings) fancied particularly and cluttered with castles and palaces, most notably the Neuschwanstein castle. Even Wagner passed by Füssen mainly on his way to visit his friend at the other places around. The privileged geographical position, however, made it an important spot since pre-historical times and is home of important cultural heritage (the oldest German fresco is allegedly in the St. Mang Basilica and the Hohes Schloss is the best preserved Bavarian medieval castle).
