Baking

Baking is the method of cooking food with dry heat, most commonly in an oven, but this can also be done in hot ashes or on hot stones. The most baked item is bread, and the terminology of baking is interesting. In English, the bread-maker is called a baker, while in French, it is call a boulanger (with emphasis on the dough) and in Spanish, a panadero (with emphasis on the product itself). There is in fact no direct translation in French for baking: as a verb, cuisson might be the closest equivalent for the intended meaning but this corresponds to cooking in English. The literal equivalent is enfourner which however is not used in this sense; for instance, there is no link to the French wikipedia from the Wikipedia baking page (there is one for Spanish, Horneado, and even for the Catalan enfornat).
