Energy

The SI unit of energy is the Joules.

In civil use, one also refer to:

  • Kilowatt-hours (kWh) - 1000W of power used for one hour, or $3.6\times 10^6$J. Since W is SI, 1Ws (Watt Second) is 1J.
  • Calories - energy to raise 1g of water by 1°C, or 4.184J.
  • British Thermal Unit (BTU) is very close to 1J (1BTU=1.055J).

A typical electrical radiator is 2kW. Our Panadero Chimney is nominally 7kW.

Typical use are, e.g., 150 kWh/year for a washing machine. Spain's average household consumption is around 3500 kWh/year.

The price of energy as of 19 March (2025) is 0,120984€/kWh.
