In Géza von Radványi's movie L'Étrange Désir de monsieur Bard, the spectator is presented with the three counters that one finds in all the city halls and in between of which we dance to pass the time. The director, or possibly the screenwriter, Barjavel, chose the city hall and its administrative aspects to make their point, but they could have chosen the church just the same. The three counters are Naissances, Mariages and Décés.
