Time is the only thing that consistently keeps going forward, on this side of the event horizon. Timelines are a nice way to keep track of it.
I'm using TimeLine.js, which is free and with decent built-in support. The simplest is to use a Google spreadsheet (see the instructions) and, in a second step, publish it online.
