Abstract: I will talk about liquid light confined between two parallel planar mirrors. Polaritons, the carriers of this liquid light, behave very much like other bosons such as atoms or molecules. Similarly to Shroedinger's cat, they are light and matter at the same time. I will first make an introduction to polaritonics and then cover some recent advances, establishing a connection between polaritonics and another rapidly developing domain in physics - the field of topological insulators. In particular, I will describe a device that works as a unidirectional waveguide for light, which is extremely atypical.
