Minimalism in music, which is what interests me, is roughly but well characterized as the repetition of very short phrases which change gradually, producing a hypnotic effect.
My favorite composer of the genre is Philip Glass, who however rejects the term.
Another mesmerizing composer is Yann Tiersen. Shockingly, when I learned to play la Maison, I found out I did not like it anymore. Decomposing the music into notes spoiled it completely. I could then hear the right-hand notes separately from the left-hand ones and this cut apart a butterfly into dead-insects trimmings.
