Sven Höfling

Sven Höfling (b. 19 November (1976)) is a full Professor (Lehrstuhl für Technische Physik) at the University of Würzburg, Germany. He is a fruitful, world-renowned expert in many fields of nanotechnology and photonics, working on the combined design, fabrication (growth) and characterization (classical and quantum spectroscopy) of low-dimensional electronic and photonic nanostructures, producing for instance some of the world's best single-photon sources,[1] which allowed for one of the earliest and most compelling boson sampling demonstration.[2]

He is a first-generation academic, earning his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.), with distinction, in 2012 on the topic of "Single mode emitting GaAs/AlGaAs quantum cascade lasers" under the direction of Alfred Forchel.

He is also one of the most successful researchers in the fields of polaritonic, achieving long sought milestones and/or fundamental effects, from electrical pumping of a polariton laser[3] to the polariton topological insulator,[4] and contributing to countless top papers in the last decades of the field.

He is an interesting, considerate and constructive person whose company is always bringing something, either from the scientific or social point of view, often both. I hope to be one day part of a breakthrough with him, at the interface of his two specialities: quantum & polaritons.
